Review – Black Space Riders – Black Space Riders
This review has been a long time coming. You know how you find new bands, and you’re not really sure about what to say about them or even how to say it when you do? Well, fortunately, this album is one of those cases. Wait, did I just say “fortunately”? Yes, because the less time it takes you to actually read my review means you have more time to research this band and find out how you can support them any way you can.
The band that I’m talking about, of course, is Black Space Riders out of Germany, and their style of music is an entrancing blend of doom, space, and stoner rock. That’s really all that needs to be said about their sound. Take what you know about doom metal, stoner rock, and space rock and then combine it all into one band. That’s the general idea behind this band’s sound. However, they don’t just mix the sounds, they masterfully combine the sounds about as well as I can imagine anyone doing it.
What’s great about this album is Black Space Riders doesn’t keep the same sound throughout. The tempo of the album is constantly changing between up-tempo rock anthems and epic, space doomy tracks. What is constant throughout, though, is the fact the band brings it every song, and, as the band puts it, “resulting in a one-hour-trip through black and infinite space.”
As far as I’m concerned, if you’re looking to take a darker, yet fun, trip through space than what’s typically available to you, you would not do yourself any harm by picking up a copy of Black Space Riders. Go on ahead, let them take you for a ride. Some of the more memorable stops along the way include the opening track, “Spacebomb”, the punk-inspired “Stoned Bikers in Space” and perhaps my favorite track on the album, the epic “Black Book of Cosmic Salvation Pt. II: I, Black Space Messiah”.
