We was formed in October, 2011, in Budapest, Hungary. In december we got a chance to record our concert for almost free, so we did it, however at that time we had been playing together only 2 months. Fortunately the songs come easy for our songwriter, Rico.

Ok, so what do you get when you reincarnate Kyuss (MK1) and place them on the other side of the earth? The results may surprise you but Head For The Sun would probably be that band. So…we all know about fuzz rock these days. Hell, we even call it “Fuzz Rock” as a point clarification in conversations we have amongst the hordes of underground rock fans we run into. In 1968 Muddy Waters didn’t know what fuzz rock was, but he made a cornerstone record in regards to developing the sound. ”Electric Mud” is not your typical Muddy Waters records. It’s like Muddy Waters playing in a rock band that is covering Muddy Waters. It was meant to be his answer to the whole psychedelic revolution that was happening to rock and roll. It was not a huge success among his fans and followers, (which is funny to think about, it sold over 150,000 copies in the first 6 weeks). Time were different for the music industry back then and hearing a fuzz box and a wah pedal on a Muddy Waters recording just wasn’t up to his fans harsh judgement. A common criticism was that Muddy was selling out to white audiences. Gee, so much has changed since then. I think its worth mentioning that “Are You Experienced” was released the same year . You never can win. Today, Electric Mud has finally gained some of the respect it deserves. Bands like Radio Moscow or The Flying Eyes would be a little lost without the sound that was being forged when this record was made. Muddy was probably right when he said that he didn’t think the album was blues album, but it is a damn fine rock record. Check out the Electric Mud version of Mannish Boy and tell me if it doesn’t blow away the majority of “stoner” rock music you here today. After all, we are talking about the guy who said “Well you know there shouldn’t be a law for people who wanna smoke a little dope.”

Detuned Arkansas (funereal) doom metal, though with more in common with foreign acts like Mournful Congregation and Paradise Lost.

And with the cover of “Gloomy Sunday,” that’s one Billie Holiday tune down– if they ever did “Strange Fruit” I’d probably kill myself right there. Their version of “Gloomy Sunday” is RIDICULOUSLY depressing.

And that’s a compliment.

Anyway, the whole thing’s free. Gobble that shit up.

They are Ride to Ruin. They don’t like things that suck. They like hard and heavy music. They play heavy and hard music. They play it because the state of modern day radio sucks with your 3 Nickelback Down and Linkin Staind bands hogging up the airwaves from good and talented musicians. They play until beer pours out your pores and there’s no stopping them. I can go on and on but their music speaks for itself. If you want to be punched in the balls hard through music, Ride to Ruin is the band to do it to you.

I’m still on somewhat of a heavy and doom kick so when I fired up The Burning EP by Italy’s own Firelord, I was pleasantly surprised. Right away I’m greeted with some nice sounding and deep crushing vibes. The vocals are deep but not to deep, the classic rock elements on some of the guitars are a breath of fresh air. The sound brings back some of the later day Black Sabbath. I loved this one from start to finish. The EP isn’t anything groundbreaking but it is good. This EP serves as a great start for the band and I’d certainty be all over a full length when one is released.

Samsara Blues Experiment is a band I’ve followed loosely over the past few years. It was with great pleasure that this album made it’s way into my ears. I loved the psych blues of past albums so Revelation & Mystery was a welcomed addition. Those psych blues elements are intact, in fact, the album has a bit more of a prog feel to it. Late last year I learned to appreciate some good old fashioned prog metal and was delighted to hear some throughout Revelation & Mystery. Samsara Blues Experiment never fails in their releases. They’re continuously evolving and that’s what a lot of bands that succeed do. Their combo of classic, prog, psychedelic, and blues rock make for an excellent album and one that I’m quite fond of.

I have a question. Is there really a theme for funerals? If there isn’t I nominate Le Scimmie. This 2 piece play a hella of a doomed out, deathly sounding, well, doom. It’s heavily fuzzed out too which really adds to the atmosphere surrounding the album Dromomania. All is not to heavy though as there are some lighter moments that seem to have a bit of a garage rock tone and they mix it up with some classic and post rock elements. Very well done gentlemen. Dromomania is one of the best instrumental albums I’ve heard in a while.

What seems like only yesterday has actually only been a year. It feels like yesterday I was letting everyone know about XII Boar and their what is now first release. Now they’re back with an EP that’s even heavier and more in your face than the last. I didn’t think it was possible but the band has proven me wrong. Split Tongue, Cloven Hoof is one intense beast. If your suicidal tendencies are subsiding, this will bring them out ten fold. This is some seriously kick ass heavy rock. The best thing about it, it’s free. Get it now!

RIVAL SONS: New Video Interview Posted Online

RIVAL SONS once again teamed up with video director Greg Ephraim for the “All Over The Road” video, which can be seen below

RIVAL SONS frontman Jay Buchanan commented: “Just like in the last video, there was no green screen used for this one. We actually did drive a Cadillac through outer space with a bunch of hot, naked chicks in the backseat. I haven’t seen a final edit yet because they’re trying to lower it to at least an ‘R’ rating. We’ll see if that actually happens.”

“All Over the Road” is taken from RIVAL SONS‘ new album, “Pressure And Time”, which is out now worldwide on CD and limited-edition audiophile vinyl, as well as on iTunes with two exclusive bonus tracks.

RIVAL SONS was nominated for two Classic Rock awards, in the categories of “Best New Band” and “Best Album”.

ORANGE GOBLIN: Behind-The-Scenes Footage Of The “Red Tide Rising” Video Brought To You By Noisecreep

Today Noisecreep premieres behind-the-scenes footage of ORNAGE GOBLIN’s “Red Tide Rising” video, the opening track off the band’s forthcoming A Eulogy For The Damned full-length, set for North American release on February 14, 2012. The video clip is loosely based on H.P. Lovecraft stories and was shot in a series of dilapidated buildings around the UK.

Elaborated vocalist Ben Ward of the video: “We made the terrible decision to make the video for ‘Red Tide Rising’ the day after the London Christmas show so it meant we all had to be up bright and early, with very severe hangovers and head down to the New Forest. Luckily it was a bright, sunny day so everyone was in good spirits and the production crew went to work setting up at the location, which was some sort of abandoned army barracks in the middle of nowhere! It could have doubled as the location for Hostel 4! In the meantime, the band was dragged halfway across Dorset to do a photo shoot whilst being attacked by rampaging horses! When we returned, thankful to be alive, we were ready to go and the recording process was very pleasant and quite a lot of fun! We already knew that the footage of us would be mixed with some animation that we’d acquired the use of so we weren’t required to do anything too ambitious, just repeatedly go over the track imagining we were playing it to 100,000 people at Wembley stadium! Fuelled by tea and biscuits we got the job done and the results look great!”

Review – Sundown Service – Sundown Service

I’m going to shed my dark, heavy and doom ways for a moment and kick back to something that caught me completely off guard. The band is Sundown Service, a southern rock jam band from Lexington, KY. Personally I’ve always been attracted to nice looking and interesting cover art so when I seen the cover for Sundown Service’s self titled I was interested. From the looks I figured some psychedelic band but low and behold, something a lot better and deeper.

Sundown Service is a southern rock and jam band with a little psychedelic to it. Under the band’s influences listed on their Facebook page they list “Fillmore East.” The Allman Brothers At Fillmore East is easily one of that band’s best albums ever and listening to Sundown Service, it’s easy to see why. Sundown Service doesn’t try to copy The Allman Brothers in any way at all though some of their songs do resemble some of the slower songs put out by The Allman Brothers and even Lynyrd Skynyrd. It’s fine southern country rock with a bit of a slower side. The highlight track for me is “Blank Slate” which is a jam track that sounds almost improvised. I doubt it actually is but it’s still a kick ass tune.

If you like southern classic rock in the same vain as Sweet Kiss Momma, The Allman Brothers, 38 Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd and even a little Mashall Tucker Band, this is right up your alley. You can stream the whole album on the player below. Currently it appears it’s only available digitally through Bandcamp and all the other culprits like iTunes, Amazon, etc.
