Review – Elks – Destined For The Sun
Elks are a newer band recently signed by Tee Pee Records. Their album Destined For The Sun is due out from the label on September 27th, 2011. If Portland has Red Fang then the east coast belongs to Elks. Their heavy and sludgy monstrous riffs are a force to recon with. I’m not up to date with the sludge scene so I’m not going to sit here and sugar coat it or pretend to know what I’m talking about. That said, I was fully entertained by Elks debut release. There’s 6 tracks for a total of 22 minutes. Vocals are more on line to what you’d hear on a Kylessa album. The drums are tight, fast and hardly ever slow down. The bass is big but not to prominent. The guitars are fast, technical and boasts some great riffs throughout. The album had me bobbing my head the entire time. Me being an old man, was glad it was over because my neck was hurting but because I had it on repeat, round two. Fight!
Every fan of Red Fang, The Melvins, Kylessa, Black Tusk or Baroness need to hear these guys. Listen to the track “White Fang Leans To Hate” below and head on over to Tee Pee Records Website and order you up a copy.
