Introducing… The Mud Suns

The Mud Suns (Chadd Mattison, Cole Mattison, and Kevin Kuchar) are a raw blend of soulful blues and hard rock, forging a new and unique sound that is both refreshing and invigorating to the tired listener of modern day music. The band formed in the summer of 2007 as the Black Blues, making music in the upstairs of a garage with a borrowed drum set and borrowed amplifiers.

After crafting together three songs, the Black Blues booked some studio time at the Birth House Studio in Owosso MI where they met Jeff Parks, a recording engineer who moved to Michigan from Las Angeles CA. With Parks guidance, the trio began to understand what it takes to be a band. Sadly, Jeff Parks passed away shortly after meeting the band.

In the winter of 2009, the Black Blues, went on to win the Next Big Thing battle of the bands competition in Pontiac MI, earning 1st place over fifty-eight other bands. With this victory the group earned another shot in the studio, working with Tim Smith, the owner of the Soundscape Recording Studio in Royal Oak MI. Forging a friendship with Tim, the Mud Suns would later rent the Soundscape Recording Studio, where Chadd would engineer the group’s debut album, The Hundredth Monkey.

These guys have a mad sound. It’s bluesy and loud. It mixes the best of blues rock and stoner rock with a bit of punk. Hell yeah!
