There’s a cemetery in the south suburbs of Chicago called Bachelor’s Grove. It’s rumored to be haunted. Over the years many people have gone to the cemetery in search for such ghosts, myself included. Most chicken out at the gate, others do not. This isn’t  a haunted ghost story, this is about music. The band (whom I’m sure took their name from the cemetery) is from Chicago and play mellowed out, blues based stoner rock.

Bandcamp Rcommendations 1/26/2012

Is it Thursday already? Yes, in fact, it’s the LAST Thursday this month. The month flew by pretty quickly. I’m going to stop beating around the bush. All FREE music. Support, support, support and support. If you like what you hear, give back in any way you can. Hell even a “like” on their Facebook page and telling all your friends works when all else fails. Anyways, the music, there are a few instrumentals this week. Lets give the vocalists some rest shall we?

Bear Baiting is the brainchild of bassists Matt Boylan (Cuneiform) and Dennis Valles (Helen 55). The two met at a mutual friend’s show and discussed a 2 bass project. Shortly after, the two got together and started writing material. Valles decided to program all the drums, and take a more DIY approach, tracking and mixing everything. We’re proud of our experiment, and hope you enjoy as well.Bear Baiting play instrumental post rock and shoegaze blend of music. Very interesting and very good stuff indeed.

Welcome to yet another great Bandcamp Recommendations feature. There’s some more choice albums here today. Lots to keep you busy. Remember, you like, you buy or support the band in any other way possible.

Featuring current and former members of American Heritage and Blood of the Tyrant, Heaving Mass skillfully blends its earth- shaking metal riffery with a keen sense of rhythm, resulting in songs that can trot along deftly at quick tempos while still carrying enough weight and gravity to satisfy the most doom-obsessed of listeners.

Welcome to the first Bandcamp Recommendations of 2012. Welcome. I hope your Christmas and New Years were nice, fun and safe. Now, onto the music. As always, everything is free. Some straight up free, others name your price. Please support the bands in anyway possible. Hell, even sharing this article and/or the bands music through your own social circles helps spread th word which is good the for the bands.

Band biographies are pointless piles of self-indulgent garbage. Therefore, the members of the Satanic Rock & Roll combo known as YOU HANDSOME DEVIL have chosen to say absolutely nothing about their extraordinarily spectacular band and how great it is. If you like it, turn it up. If you hate it, go to Hell. Either way you’ll be listening to YOU HANDSOME DEVIL.

Merry Christmas to everyone out there and Happy Holidays to everyone else. This will be the last Bandcamp Recommendation feature for 2011. I’ll be taking a 2 week break from the feature to focus on other things within and outside of The Soda Shop.

It’s been a great year for the feature. To much music has been released and certainly not enough time to soak it all in. Well you know the drill by now. Listen, download for FREE and but what and when you can from the bands.

From Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom comes the progressive psychedelic sound that is Electric Sorcery. This electrifying power trio brings together three of the best known original musicians in the NEK, Derek Campbell, on vocals and guitar, Luke Laplant on the electric wind instrument and PJ Davidian on the drums.Like Frank Zappa, you’ll love these guys. They have some of the weirdest, coolest progressive psychedelic rock I’ve heard in a long time.

I may take a break for the next two weeks from this. I haven’t decided yet. For now though, here’s this weeks finds.

Found this via Chybucca Sounds:

Sauntering in from the West Coast, The Rattlesnake Aces’ first, full-length release, is close to being the perfect debut: killer hooks delivered with chest-beating swagger.

Featuring members of: Unwritten Law and Agent 51, this San Diego quintet’s ‘Wreck’n’Roll’ formula is taking the much-recycled, riff-and-raunch fanfare of old, and rebranding it with renewed vigour and purpose. From the ZZ-Top-tinged, ‘Outlaw Girl: You’re Super Band’ ‘(‘Sleeping Bag’, anyone?), to the rustic, neo-psychedelia-tinged stomp of ‘Astral Dogs’…… (full review here)

The Bandcamp Recommendations has really grown and will continue to do so. That said, here is this weeks recommendations. All free of course but support the bands that you like in any way that you can.

To shed all the illusory rights & hesitations of history demands the economy of some legendary Stone Age–shamans not priests, bards not lords, hunters not police, gatherers of paleolithic laziness, gentle as blood, going naked for a sign or painted as birds, poised on the wave of explicit presence, the clockless nowever. With that said, I present to you, The Heavy Hills. Their album The Heavy Hills Roll is a tripped out psychedelic masterpiece. Their sound is vary similar to The Black Angels only a little less vocals.
