PALO VERDE is a highly improvisational all-female, metal/sludge/noise duo from Portland OR. The band initially formed as experimental double-drum duo called Stick-It-In but evolved into the current improvisational guitar/drums incarnation. Since 2006, they have performed extensively in the Northwest and throughout the U.S., sharing the stage with bands such as Jucifer, Thrones, Black Elk, Japanther, and Kusikia. Drummer Lauren K also plays guitar in the blistering LKN.

RECOMMENDED IF YOU LIKE: Black Sabbath, Shellac, Jucifer.

There’s a cemetery in the south suburbs of Chicago called Bachelor’s Grove. It’s rumored to be haunted. Over the years many people have gone to the cemetery in search for such ghosts, myself included. Most chicken out at the gate, others do not. This isn’t  a haunted ghost story, this is about music. The band (whom I’m sure took their name from the cemetery) is from Chicago and play mellowed out, blues based stoner rock.

The Soda Shop Podcast This Saturday!

Listen to The Soda Shop’s weekly Podcast this Saturday 3-5 pm EST on Grip of Delusion Radio.

October is breast cancer awareness month. A few months back I wanted to do another comp album that featured female fronted bands. Instead of giving it away, I wanted to make it a “Name your price” but charge a minimum of $1 with 100% of the proceeds going to a breast cancer research charity. Unfortunately I couldn’t get enough female fronted bands to get behind this project. Only 4 bands got on board with the project with 3 submitting songs (the 4th hadn’t yet completed recording). I couldn’t go on with just 4 bands so unfortunately I had to scrape the plan. The next best thing I could do was to create this Podcast dedicated to the women of rock and to remind every lady out there to check yourself or go get checked for breast cancer. So, in my best Barry White voice, ladies, this one is for you. Save the tatas! You can donate by clicking on the tatas below.

01 Fuzz Manta – “Lithia’s Box” from Opus II (2011)
02 The Worthies – “Baba Jigida” from Crown & Gin (2011) (more…)

Once again there’s some good music out there to be shared with the rest of the world. Music that’s oh so good. Here you go. It’s all free for the taking. Just make sure you give back when possible. Buy physical copies, donate or go see them live. So, here we go.

Hydronaut are a Boston based band featuring Keith Pierce (Mellow Bravo) on vocals. The album, Cinco De Mayo, is a hard and heavy sludge metal album with bits and pieces of hard and classic rock. Fans of Kylesa and Red Fang will like this one.
