This one is a bit different but fucking cool. The band The Columbines is from Chicago. they play some wicked blues rock mixed with a bit of old school outlaw country and even some rock-a-billy. Think of it as Chicago’s version of Five Horse Johnson.
“The Columbines arrived with a splash, riding a flaming wicker bunny that fell from the sky into the icy waters of Lake Michigan. They play songs about love, songs about anger, songs about angry love and lovely anger, songs with birds, bees, cars, trains, and planes, songs about the devil you know and the devil you don’t.”
Satellite Beaver. Great fucking name. Great fucking EP.
Formed in Warsaw in 2008, Satellite Beaver is a hard rocking stoner band that needs to make an LP after hearing this 4 song EP.
All the way from Poland, never knew of em, so I checked out their facebook page. Instant connection because the band used the Oregon State Beaver mascot for a “Worship Satan” jpeg. Love it because I (more…)

The Heavy Eyes are back with a 2 track demo from their winter recording sessions. It’s only 2 songs (thus the “2”) but they already shows signs of a refined sound. Excellent music as always!
In advance of Friday’s premiere of this year’s highly anticipated movie “Marvel’s The Avengers”, Austin, Texas metal luminaries THE SWORD have announced the release of “Hammer Of Heaven”, an early track dating back to 2003 that was not included on “Age Of Winters”, which the band submitted for inclusion on “Avengers Assemble”, a 14-track compilation of music from and inspired by the film.
Due to severe space limitations, the song did not make the final track listing, but the band, along with their new label partners at Razor & Tie have decided to make “Hammer Of Heaven” available digitally to coincide with the release of the film. Click here to download the song on iTunes. (more…)
The hard, strong sound impact of the Genoese (Italy) band, Gandhi’s Gunn (Hobo, vocals; Scazzi, guitar; Maso, bass; Andrea, drums), is intensely inspired by the forcible sound of the first American Stoner Rock undercurrent, such as Corrosion of Conformity, Fu Manchu and Clutch, while frequently exploring more visionary and psychedelic territories.
Considered a point of reference on the Italian Stoner Rock scene, Gandhi’s Gunn have had two years of intense live activity on stage with bands of worldwide fame such as Church of Misery (Japan), Los Natas (Argentina), Acid King (USA), Atomic Bitchwax (USA), 16 (USA), Nadja (Canada), Amen Ra (Belgium) and Clutch (USA) & more.

The awaited debut album of Swedish DÖDAREN available through digital distribution services from April 27th.
DÖDAREN was formed late 2010 by four devoted musicians in Gothenburg, Sweden. Their first EP, Flyttar In, quickly reaped attention in the realms of the underground blogosphere and was early accepted as stoner rock. It was compared to larger and more influential bands in the margins of alternative rock and swiftly received some dedicated fans in several corners of the world. Eric, Martin, Fredrik and Jon have prior to the formation of the group played in several different constellations in genres ranging from the softest blues to the hardest hardcore.
Spurred by the success of the EP, DÖDAREN gathered during the winter of 2011/2012 and recorded their debut Maen, further raising the level of ambition. The guys in DÖDAREN see themselves as moving through uncharted territories of style, and thus lets others do the categorizations. Some say they sound like the groovy rock that Clutch stands for, with just a hint of post metal added for good measure. Others proclaim that the recipe to sound like DÖDAREN would be to borrow some of the well known Gothenburg energy from Graveyard, steal some riffs from any great (more…)
Bonejackal plays rock and roll, no vocals, just raw to the nerve UFO rock and roll. Heavily influenced by classic rock the trio also blends elements of early psychedelic acts such as Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath and the proto-punk sounds of the Stooges, and the MC5.
Mammoth stoner rockers from down under, Mammoth Mammoth, have announced details on their 2nd album and 3rd release. You can check out the full artwork on their site (link below, NSFW).

One could say that the sound is reminiscent of QOTSA and mister Bjork, but this rediscovery of the scene is certainly no simple copy. Rather, it approaches it in new ways, celebrating groove rock, blues vibes and rhythm n’ drive in the process. This comes across in a
really visceral way.
Born to Hula present their 2nd official release, “Tales of Love”. Not as hard as “Sunrise Radio”, yet the same struggle of mind and feeling remains on this kamasutra-fuzz record. Another step in the entwining of instrumentation and messaging. Serious? Maybe. Never sure, but always aware! Eight songs for your aural pleasure. Some instrumental and relaxed. Others angry and bittersweet. All, simple and to the point. To be yourself is what they need. Viscerally, the notes try to reach you, to echo your emotion. Not trying to say something new, but confirm what is already there. Not trying to make something new, but make you feel, again. Things happen that are worth turning into music, and some of them are here. That is all! A kind of fun you need to have around. A tantra you’ll never forget!

Welcome to a new feature that will run from time to time. I call it “Vinyl Review” It’s basically a review for a submitted album but instead of Cd or Mp3 listening, this is all done with the vinyl that was received. The first review belongs to a band called Caustic Casanova. The album is their latest release and what appears to be first on vinyl (I could be wrong).
Band Bio:
Caustic Casanova is the best closer in the game today. Referred to as “Riff Emperors” by The Pinhook (Durham, North Carolina), Caustic Casanova is a heavy rock power trio from Washington, DC. They are the best! (more…)

The project started in 2009 when the girls created a couple of songs in jamming sessions that they enjoyed playing for friends. Being only two, they decide to make their first album.

Listen to Grip of Delusion Radio this Saturday 3-5 EST. This week we celebrate vinyl. There’s no denying that vinyl has really taken off the past few years. This weeks Podcast is not only vinyl related but B side too. In the old days of single, there would be a B side that often contained a non album track, a live track or a filler from the full length. Well these B sides are the 2nd side to the LP and not the singles. Oh, this isn’t Mp3 sourced material either, each B side was recorded from my actual vinyl and will contain the little pops and cracks often associated with record playing.

Lonely Crowd is heavy and aggressive. The riffs groove and the drumming is addictive. Many times I found myself in the role of air drumming to this album. “Think Fast” and “Black Cloud” are 2 standout tracks that I found myself doing this to. The album doesn’t give up either. It’s full on balls to the wall from start to finish. There is no slow or sappy songs to break up the flow. It flows real nicely from start to finish. This album is pretty aggressive to begin with so you may not be able to get all the way through it if you’re to weak. Listen for yourself on the player below but be warned, it’s not for the feint of heart.

Here’s a quick review. Just a little while ago this band called Bodacious status post shows up in my Facebook feed. The band says “Hey, new album up on Bandcamp, blah blah blah…” I have a few thousand different band and band related pages “liked” on Facebook. Something told me to check this one out to see if it’s any good. Oh hell yeah it is.
King of Scum by Bodacious is an excellent album. This album really caught me from the start with the monsterous guitars and heavy riffs. The overall sound is heavy rock with lots of post punk, heavy metal, sludge, post grunge and stoner throughout. There’s even a hint of some blues rock heavy psych here and there. I can tell the band took a lot of time putting this one together because they take all those elements and blend them in very nicely. Not all at one time either. They way they approached it, including the track order, it’s got a real nice flow to it. Everything is spread from start (more…)
