Daily Bandcamp Album – Gift Horse – Mountain of Youth

“Filled with heavy, exploding drum beats and a magical, ethereal blending of guitar, bass, and keys, Gift Horse has the ability to draw you in, capture your mind, and compel your imagination. Their songs carry menacing undertones and floating vocals that at once pick you up and mellow you out. Each melody offers a climax, backed by raging cymbals, which give way to atmospheric organ tones preparing you for the next climax and back around again.” – The Silver Tongue

I tell you thise is different and pretty fricking sweet. Think Weird Owl, meets Hopewell meets The Main Street Gospel. That’s kinda what Gift Horse’s sound is all about. Nice psychedelics and shoegaze wrapped up into one trippy ball.

Vinyl Review – Caustic Casanova – Someday You Will Be Proven Correct

Welcome to a new feature that will run from time to time. I call it “Vinyl Review” It’s basically a review for a submitted album but instead of Cd or Mp3 listening, this is all done with the vinyl that was received. The first review belongs to a band called Caustic Casanova. The album is their latest release and what appears to be first on vinyl (I could be wrong).

Band Bio:

Caustic Casanova is the best closer in the game today. Referred to as “Riff Emperors” by The Pinhook (Durham, North Carolina), Caustic Casanova is a heavy rock power trio from Washington, DC. They are the best! (more…)

Introducing… Speedy Ortiz

Speedy Ortiz. we’re a western massachusetts-based, female-fronted, guitar-heavy four piece. RIYL: pavement, helium, built to spill, Liz Phair.

I’m going to have to go out on a limb here and say I really like their sound. They’re not ball crushing heavy sludge or even have the latest hint of stoner rock but their music is very satisfying. It’s female front rock with some nice fuzzed out guitars that implement elements of shoegaze, a little garage rock and a dash of pop. (more…)

Daily Bandcamp Album – The Band In Heaven – HoZac 7″

“the band in Heaven is a perfect formula of sludgy, psych rock combined with dreamy, shoegaze melodies. Imagine The Black Angels, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Slowdive meeting somewhere in outer space” – GetBent

Introducing… The Band In Heaven

Wow! I found myself streaming their 7″ over and over. It’s pretty damn cool. There’s a lot of heavy psych throughout. Not as much shoegaze as I was expecting but still pretty righteous.

Bandcamp Rcommendations 1/26/2012

Is it Thursday already? Yes, in fact, it’s the LAST Thursday this month. The month flew by pretty quickly. I’m going to stop beating around the bush. All FREE music. Support, support, support and support. If you like what you hear, give back in any way you can. Hell even a “like” on their Facebook page and telling all your friends works when all else fails. Anyways, the music, there are a few instrumentals this week. Lets give the vocalists some rest shall we?

Bear Baiting is the brainchild of bassists Matt Boylan (Cuneiform) and Dennis Valles (Helen 55). The two met at a mutual friend’s show and discussed a 2 bass project. Shortly after, the two got together and started writing material. Valles decided to program all the drums, and take a more DIY approach, tracking and mixing everything. We’re proud of our experiment, and hope you enjoy as well.Bear Baiting play instrumental post rock and shoegaze blend of music. Very interesting and very good stuff indeed.

“Shock Radar band… frequently noted as the heaviest live act to ever come out of New York.”

Shock Radar plays some pretty mean songs with plenty of progressive, indie, punk and shoegaze elements throughout. Look for new material from Shock Radar soon.
