Review – Wight – Wight Weedy Wight

Wight are a German 3 piece that play a very cool mix of doom, stoner rock, classic rock and psychedelic rock. Their debut album Wight Weedy Wight was recently released and has been making it’s rounds through out the blog kingdom. I had a chance to listen to this and I feel its fair to say that this belongs on our blog as well. It also needs to be heard by many as it is a very good album.

The album is mostly instrumental. It opens with a somewhat doomy but mostly guitar driven psychedelic track “Cosmic Rhythem #1.” All Beyond The Piend of Being” starts off doomy but is also guitar driven and at times sounds almost Alice in Chains like. There’s plenty of guitar solos throughout as well as some vocals and plenty of psychedelics. It’s got a lot of swagger. The next song, “Let Me Know When You Found God” is next and is a long song. It’s a full 10:51 long. It’s doomy in an almost Pentagram way. It has a nice smooth transition into the next song, “Wight Weedy Wight” which is a nice mix of classic rock, psychedelic rock, stoner rock with plenty of great instrument playing throughout. It does slow down a bit in the tempo towards the end of the track, which is 11:39 by the way. This tracks ends and it cuts right into the next song, “Shaman Woman” which is a guitar driven fast number that reminds me a lot of a Grifter track. It’s a short song at just under 4 minutes but features vocals throughout the entire song. It’s a different pace but I like it. The last track is “Hammer Boogie” and starts off like “Shaman Woman” but ends with some great guitar riffs and even a saxophone to give it a jazz rock feel.

I knew right when I heard the first song that this was going to be something special. I was pleasantly surprised at how good this album is after my first listen and how better it gets with each and every listen after. Head on over to the band’s page (link below) and hear for yourself then buy your copy from them.
