Review – Planet of Zeus – Macho Libre

Heavy hard rock with some sludge and NOLA mixed in? How about Crowbar, Down, Pantera and Clutch rolled into one? Sure why not. Would it work? Well Planet of Zeus tried it and guess what? It works and works well. Where would you think this awesome sound cones from? Georgia? Nope. Portland? Guess again. Give up? Greece!

Right off the bat you’re greeted with some hard drumming and heavy guitar riffs. Deep and gruffy vocals round off the sound. The third song, “Leftovers” (video below) has less of a metal and more of a hard rock sound. The Clutch influence is a bit more obvious with this track. “Vanity Suit” displays some southern rock influences in the vocals but the music remains heavy.

All in all you’re getting one of the heaviest albums I’ve heard in a long time that isn’t a doom or drone album. Rough and gruffy vocals and some of the best finely tuned instruments round off Planet of Zeus’ sophomore release. Check them out on Facebook, listen to a few tunes and watch the video below. Hold onto your hats though, you’re about to be taken for a ride.
