New Track From The Main Street Gospel

via Shockhound:
Here at ShockHound, the only thing we love more than getting turned on to killer new music is when we can turn you on to it before anyone else does.
Which is why we’re so stoked to present the world premiere of “I Won’t Be Stayin’,” a fuzz-caked track from Love Will Have Her Revenge, the forthcoming full-length debut by the Main Street Gospel. Lodged somewhere between the bluesy scuzz of the Black Keys and the haunted highway ramblings of Neil Young, “I Won’t Be Stayin'” is one of those rare cuts that sounds both oddly familiar and intriguingly fresh. And you can only download it for FREE from ShockHound, baby!
Formed in Columbus, Ohio in 2005 by former Brian Jonestown Massacre tambourine shaker Barry Dean (vocals, guitar), Ryan “Tito” Ida (bass) and Adam Scoppa (drums), the Main Street Gospel’s brand of “mystic trip-rock” caught the ear of fellow bearded Ohioan (and Black Keys guitarist) Dan Auerbach, who produced and pressed up a couple of their songs on an indie seven-inch back in 2008. One thing led to another, and the band signed to Tee Pee Records early this year. Love Will Have Her Revenge, a wonderful album which touches upon everything from Byrds-y country rock to Spiritualized-type psychedelic mantras, will drop June 29.
But hey, you don’t need to wait until then to bathe in the cosmic vibes of the Main Street Gospel. Just click on the link above, and grab that free MP3 before it’s gone like a late spring breeze.

Tee Pee Signs The Main Street Gospel

The Main Street Gospel

The Main Street Gospel

Tee Pee Records have issued a press release announcing that signing of Ohio rock band, The Main Street Gospel.

The Main Street Gospel have signed with Tee Pee Records and will release their debut album “Love Will Have Her Revenge” on June 29th. The Main Street Gospel is a Columbus, Ohio trio who mix psych-infused classic rock with dusty country vibes and dirt-stained blues. The band was born in 2005, when Barry Dean–former tambourine shaker for the Brian Jonestown Massacre–began writing songs with longtime friend Ryan “Tito” Ida.  Adam Scoppa joined the band on drums the following year.

Dean grew up around music, as his grandfather was a touring and recording guitarist for acts like Roy Rogers & The Sons of the Pioneers and The Georgia Crackers.  It’s safe to say that passion for country music was passed on to his grandson. Tito grew up listening to Hank Williams and Bob Dylan and also paved his musical path early on.  Scoppa takes his back beat cues from vintage Chicago blues and ’60s garage.

Together, the band has a strong sense of understanding and respect for the true roots of rock n’roll.  Their sound recalls elements of folk giants The Byrds and Neil Young, while at the same time retaining the modern aesthetics of revivalists like Spacemen 3 and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

To date, The Main Street Gospel have played several shows with like-minded bands such as Dead Meadow, Hopewell and fellow Ohioans Buffalo Killers.

In early 2008, the trio mobilized themselves to Akron Analog Studio in Akron, Ohio to record what would become the band’s first 7″ single. ‘All Your Love Is Gone’ b/w ‘Who Shot You Down was recorded and engineered by The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, whose influence certainly resonates. While the songs are decidedly stripped-down in essence, they still manage to accomplish a big, layered sonic delivery.

The Main Street Gospel’s debut album will be 11 tracks of cool, driving rock n’ roll titled Love Will Have Her Revenge, sure to please bluesy alternative country, classic rock, and psych fans.

The Main Street Gospel:
Barry Dean – Vocals, Guitar
Ryan “Tito” Ida – Bass
Adam Scoppa – Drums, Percussion

Upcoming Shows:
4/9   Carabar – Columbus, OH
4/14 The Matinee – Akron, OH
4/24 Blind Bob’s – Dayton, OH
5/7   Red Special – Columbus, OH
5/29 Ruby Tuesday’s – Columbus, OH
