Brooklyn’s WEIRD OWL Unmasks New Video “SKIN THE DAWN”
GROUP EXPLORES “INNER-TO-OUTER-SPACE PSYCHEDELIC CONTINUUM” ON NEW LP “BUILD YOUR BEAST A FIRE”
WEIRD OWL, the Brooklyn band that creates music by “searching out the convergence of imagination, poetry and sound,” has just released its sophomore album Build Your Beast A Fire (Tee Pee Records). The follow up to the band’s 2009 debut Ever the Silver Chord be Loosed was recorded with Justin Pizzoferrato (Dinosaur Jr., Witch, Sonic Youth) and Bishop Allen’s Justin Rice and has been called “the great lost classic-rock album” and “a trippy prog journey”. Today, Brooklyn Vegan premieres WEIRD OWL‘s far-out, cult music video for the track “Skin the Dawn“, which can be taken in now at this location.

Review – Weird Owl – Build Your Beast A Fire
When Weird Owl released 2009’s Ever The Silver Cord Be Loosed it was met with mixed reviews. Some loved it (I did), some hated it. No matter what your opinion was of it, it certainly struck a cord with you. At the time they were compared to Neil Young and Crazy Horse. The sound was close, take away a bit of the classic rock and add a bit of some psychedelic rock and that’s your sound.
Build Your Beast A Fire, the band’s latest release, doesn’t stray to far. There’s a nice mix of harder tracks and some more acoustic based. A few of the songs such as “Tiny Sleeping Animals” have a bit of a folksy tone to it. It suits the album well actually. “Mirrors In The Mud” and “Two Headed Brother” are a few of the songs that mixes that sound with some psychedelics. (more…)

ARTWORK BY RYAN PATTERSON OF COLISEUM
Weird Owl Offer Working Title To New Album
Weird Owl have forgotten something in their last post
Sorry, meant to mention the working title of the album we’ve recently begun recording:
“Build Your Beast A Fire“.
It tells the cosmic tale of the descent of interstellar Light from the Highest reaches until it permeates the smallest most hidden recesses on Earth, then returning upward to its original abode above.
Where do you fit into the picture?
You will See.
Weird Owl Recording New Album
Tee Pee Records artist Weird Owl have announced via a Myspace blog that recording on their next album is underway.
Finished up the basic tracks last week in Vermont with Justin Pizzoferrato at Verdant Studio.
Great place, nice vibes, strange creatures at night.
Going to start Phase II momentarily.
Dig it!
