Top 20 of 2010 – Bill’s Picks

2010 was a great year for music. There was so much good stuff released it was very hard to figure out what belonged where. I’ve been pondering over my list for a few months actually and really had a hard time figuring out who went where. This list is by no means definitive. There were a lot of albums released this year that could probably be on this list, but then again, I didn’t have time to listen to everything. Jake and I share similar taste so we’re going to have some of the same picks. Enough of the chitter chatter, on with the list.

20. Zed – The Invitation – I “liked” these guys on Facebook by mistake. I thought they were a Russian band called Zoe. It’s funny how a mistake can turn into a good thing. I discovered a great album, wrote the first review of it for them and I get to kick Mark’s ass in Words with Friends from time to time. He’s pretty good at it too. This album is one of the best independent releases of 2010 and I can’t wait to hear what 2011 and beyond holds for these guys.

19. Sea of Air – Sea of Air EP – Until I ordered the Night Horse 45’s that were released earlier in the year I had never heard of this band. They’re not real active online, I don’t think they have Myspace page either. Heck, when I wrote about their EP, it took them a few weeks to notice it on their Facebook page. Anyhow, these guys have stuck with me since.

Bandcamp Recommendations 12/09/2010

Is it Thursday again? Oh wait, it is. Well I guess that means we have to do another Bandcamp Recommendation. Well, we don’t have to. Finding new music is just as fun as listening to it. So I’ve gone and offered up some more choice music for you this week. Just remember, if you like it, support the band in any way that you can. Buy their tunes, see their show or order some swag.

The Muddy Reds were recently a New Band To Burn One to as well as had their album reviewed by us.

The album is a combination of early Rolling Stones, Robin Trower, classic and southern rock. This is a soulful album right from the get go. It changes itself up from slow to fast throughout but has a nice even flow. The balance between blues rock and classic rock is as about perfect as one can get.

New Band To Burn One To – The Muddy Reds

As Seen on Heavy Planet

Today’s New Band To Burn One To is The Muddy Reds.

It’s a sweltering summer day…you’re cruising down a dirt road in an old pickup, windows down, switching between a Creedence 8-track and Motown’s Greatest Hits, when suddenly the sky turns red and you realize you’ve been on Mars. (more…)

Review – The Muddy Reds – Mannequin

My latest review came across the email recently from a band called The Muddy Reds. The Muddy Reds are a 4 piece from Los Angeles, CA. They’ve been together since 2005. To date they have released a self titled EP and now their latest effort Mannequin which was just released this past October. The album is a combination of early Rolling Stones, Robin Trower, classic and southern rock.

The album starts off with the track “Flophouse” which is a happy and upbeat track. “Atomic Springtime” is next which is upbeat as well but features a bit more southern rock to it. “Bad Cherry” is a faster tempo song. It’s the type of song that brings people out from the back of the venue out to the (more…)
